Diamond’s Proprietary Probiotic Technology:
Healthy digestive and immune systems are paramount to the overall health of pets. The bacteria in a probiotic must be viable, alive, and able to multiply. Diamond is one of only a very few pet food manufacturers who add their probiotics to the food AFTER the cooking process, which would otherwise kill beneficial bacteria
Diamond Developed Species Specific Probiotics
Diamond has developed their own proprietary beneficial bacteria of species-specific probiotics. Their probiotics have been developed from probiotic strains already found in dog and cat GI Tracts. These Diamond Probiotics are known as, “K9 Strain” and “Viables Probiotics”, respectively and were developed specifically for use in Diamond dog and cat foods.
Diamond Guarantees 80 Million CFU Per Pound of Viable Probiotics
Viable probiotics are called Colony Forming Units (CFU). Diamond Probiotics are guaranteed to provide 80 million colony-forming units (CFU) of live, active probiotic cultures per pound. What this means for pets is that they will be able to digest more effectively and that they will be healthier and stronger.
- K9 Strain Probiotics enhance every dry dog formula of Diamond, Diamond Naturals, Diamond Naturals Grain-Free, and Diamond CARE
- Viables Probiotics enhance every dry cat formula of Diamond, Diamond Naturals, Diamond CARE Weight Management for Adult Cats
- K9 Strain Probiotics and Viables Probiotics are processed under strict quality and safety standards and guaranteed to be free of harmful pathogens or other contaminants
- K9 and Viables Probiotics are both also used in Diamond’s Taste of the Wild product lines
Why Are Probiotics Important?
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that help maintain digestive health and support a healthy immune system by keeping potentially harmful bacteria at bay. Just as in humans, probiotics help your dog or cat break down food and absorb nutrients more efficiently, and, because 70 percent of an animal’s immune system is housed in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, a healthy digestive system is vital to the overall health and vitality of any animal.
Diamond’s Comprehensive Food Safety System:
Diamond has developed one of the most comprehensive food safety systems that guide its processes and ensure the quality and safety of every product in the Diamond family.
On-Site Product Testing
Diamond tests and monitors every critical aspect of their manufacturing pre-production, production, and post-production processes:
-
Mycotoxin Control - 1,340 mycotoxin tests/week
Mycotoxins are toxic chemicals produced by fungi that can occasionally appear in grains. Therefore, no grain ingredients are allowed to enter Diamond facilities without having been thoroughly analyzed. Additionally, they test all finished products prior to release
-
Microbial Testing - 1,600+ microbiological tests/week
Diamond conducts over 1,600 microbiological tests every week. All topical palatants and probiotics must have a Certificate of Analysis and prove to be Salmonella-negative before submission to their facilities.
-
Oxidative Stability Tests on Fats & Oils - 225+ tests/week
Oxidation occurs when atoms (or groups of atoms) gain oxygen or lose hydrogen. What this ultimately means is that if fats and oils are exposed to air and light for any length of time, they undergo oxidation and hydrolysis reactions; the fats and oils then develop an unpleasant taste and odor and are termed, “rancid”. Oxidation Stability is an estimate of how quickly a fat or oil will become rancid.
-
7,500+ Ingredient Nutritional tests/month
Diamond provides an advance scope of food nutritional analysis and testing methods that help confirm the nutrient content of each product. These tests also ensure their food compliance with regulators when manufacturing and selling products.
-
Water Purification
Diamond’s reverse-osmosis water purification process ensures the water they use is free from microorganisms and any possible contaminants.
-
Air Quality Control
All facilities are segregated into zones to ensure the separation of raw materials from finished products and equipped with HEPA®-filtered and ozone-air-treated handling units.
-
56,000+ Finished Product Nutritional Test/month with their “Test and Hold” Program
No product is released into distribution without adhering to the strict standards of Diamond’s Test and Hold Program, in which product tests are conducted by a certified, independent laboratory.
-
18+ Hours of Employee Safety Training per Employee/year
Diamond puts safety at the forefront of all they do. Training helps expand knowledge and experience and helps ensure everyone's safety.
-
600+ Safety Assessments/year
Diamond safety assessments identify potential safety and damage; it involves risk analysis and the likelihood of a risk. Diamond’s overall purpose of safety assessment is to focus on providing their work family with a safe, healthy environment by diminishing potential issues.
